Steven A. Hamilton is a Member at the firm. Mr. Hamilton specializes in medical malpractice and health care litigation, representing health care providers and institutions. In 1974, Mr. Hamilton was admitted to the Maryland Bar and the U.S. District Court of Maryland. He was admitted to the District of Columbia Bar and the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in 1978, and to the United States Supreme Court in 1979. He is a Fellow of The American College of Trial Lawyers and a Member of the District of Columbia Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, and the Montgomery County Bar Association.
Mr. Hamilton received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from South Carolina State College in 1969. Notably, he was recognized as a Distinguished Military Graduate and listed in Who’s Who in American Universities and Colleges. Prior to active military service, he was an accountant with Ernst & Ernst.
Mr. Hamilton received his juris doctor from American University in 1974. Upon completion of his law degree, Mr. Hamilton was a law clerk to Chief Judge Ralph Shure in the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court of Montgomery County. Subsequently, he held positions as an Assistant State’s Attorney (prosecutor) and an Assistant Public Defender for Montgomery County for approximately five years, until February 1979.
Mr. Hamilton was a Shareholder of the firm of Hamilton Altman Canale & Dillon LLC (originally named Donahue, Ehrmantraut & Montedonico) from 1979 until February 2013.He is a seasoned trial attorney, having tried hundreds of cases in courts in Maryland and the District of Columbia. Mr. Hamilton has been listed continuously from 1995 to the present in all editions of “The Best Lawyers in America.” He has also been named by Washingtonian Magazine as one of “The Best Lawyers” in Washington, D.C. Mr. Hamilton has lectured quite extensively to local and national organizations on the subjects of professional liability (primarily medical) and risk management.
Mr. Hamilton joined Gleason, Flynn, Emig, & Fogleman, Chartered in March 2013, where he will continue representing health care providers, institutions, and physicians in malpractice cases.
